Ranger engines

Well guys, I am now the proud owner of three -count 'em- three (3) Ranger engines . . . two in hand, and one that I still have to pick up. : ) plus assorted airframe and other parts for my PT-19 project.
I am not going to do it right away, but I am gathering data on shops that would overhaul a Ranger engine, and eventually will look for a propeller.
It has been a really productive week PT-19wise!

Hi Tulio,
From reading your posts I gather you from somewhere maybe in Southeast Texas. Just wanted to mention that my late Uncle used to own a PT-19 years ago, maybe 1968 to 71. He partially restored it, replacing the fabric on the fusalage and control surfaces and had it painted overall white with some kind of contrasting stripping. It had the greenhouse canopy similar to the AT-6. I helped him with the restoration back then. He kept at a little airport called Airman's field. It was forced to close when Houston (Bush)Intercontinental Airport opened because it was too close. I've often wondered where that PT-19 ended up. I don't have any serial numbers right now but I may be able to dig up some from family records. Do you have just the one or several airframes?

Yes, I live in the Houston general area, and I believe that I know which airfield you are talking about; if it is the one I think, it was located west of I-45 and generally north of US-290, South from 1960; the last time I was in that area, around 1980 or 81, there were houses built on what used to be the airport, and if I recall correctly, also a golf course.
Any info on that particular airplane will be most welcome!
I own a fuselage and now, engines and other assorted parts; the fuse I bought from Steve Dennis (also a WIXer) and the other parts more recently elsewhere.

Tulio: You might as well join up with the Fairchild Club. Lots of good information and numerous PT series owners and restorers. I've worked on a couple of -19's and 26's along with a -23. I've got some friends that are a wealth of info on them as they have owned and restored them for over 30 years.
BTW...you coming up for the Alliance show here in Fort Worth this year? If so let me know and I'll see what we can put together around here over that weekend.

Congratulations Brother Tulio!
Having been a former PT-19 project owner myself, I wish you all the success in the world finding that mint, very-slightly-used center section (used by a little, old lady who only flew it to church on Sundays)...

I have no idea when the show in FW is taking place; for me, it is all contingent upon work; if I happen to be in Texas when the show takes place, I may decide do take the long drive and go to the show, but if I am working elsewhere . . . For this reason I have missed Wings Over Houston for the last several years, and I used to be a regular, driving one of the golf carts with water and gatorade : )

There are solutions however, because I know of a guy in South America, who within the last couple of years, built a couple of them for PT-19s, and part of my plan is to either buy plans from him, or to buy a center section built by him and bring it here. My project has not reached that stage yet, but I am always looking for parts and asking questions, and eventually it will all come together.
I am having a blast with the project; talking about it with the guys here at the airfield -one of them worked as an USAAC aviation mechanic in Panama during WWII- and driving to airfields looking for parts and finding always, interesting people and interesting junked airplanes to look at and to photograph . . .
