Auckland (NZ) New Aviation Display hall

Recently visited the re-newed Museum of Transport and Technology in Auckland (NZ)

Compared to the old situation ,its has much improved.

Main exhibits inside are the Lancaster ,Mosquito ,A-4 Skyhawk ,Hudson Lo-10 and P-40 and a nice selection De Havillands.

Unfortunatly stored outside is the Shorts Sunderland and Shorts Solent ,Dakota ,PV-2 and Lodestar.
No luck this time on open restoration shops ,so perhaps next time more luck.

The plan was that the flying boats would be moving into the hangar in the next few months (appropriate parts of the wall are removable for this reason), and various exhibits will be hung off the roof. Since those photos they have shuffled around the layout to a different temporary setup (in preparation for more items to come over from the restoration hangar, and new airframes). And it has been decided that a large plastic open-ended framed 'tent' will be extended from the hangar, and the flying boats will be worked on under it.

Thanks Johan, Errol. I was lucky enough to visit in January, and I was very impressed. Having travelled a fair ammout to different aircraft museums, I'd say that MoTaT has achieved a remarkable level of 'bang for their buck' here, and it's one of the great collections, now presented to a standard that reflects the collection's importance.

Indeed a major improvement.
reagrding to the replies ,Hopefully we will see another improvement as the flying boats will move in ,or added in an addtional `tent`
The Sunderland has been outside more than a few years now .It deserves a roof now

I´ve updated my photoset from MOTAT with a few scans from 1998.

They show the remarkable improvement of the museum display .

Although most new scans are made in the restoration facility.
In 1998 ,the main museum building was basicly too dark for photos.
