Radial engines doing what they do...best

Mon Apr 09, 2012 9:23 pm

Nice film clip of a Constellation startup pumping out a few minutes of oil and smoke from its large piston engines ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ_RSCw8 ... re=related

There is anothern film showing the Australian HARS Constellation doing night time take offs which is lit up from its navigaton, landing lights and engine exhausts...

Anyone got any better films or photos?

Wonderful music!!!! Few things can beat the sweet sounds of 4 huge radials digging in at the start of a takeoff run and then their coming together into that thrum.
One question, what happened to the old rule that you lowered your flaps on the ramp to keep from spraying everything within 500 yards behind the airplane in oil speckles?

Having been a "ramp rat" at DCA for Eastern Air Lines '54-'55, I couldn't begin to count the number of "Connies" I either gave the start signal or stood "fire bottle" on. "Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls o' Fire"
AH...the old days when engines had a whirley thing at the front. :drink3:

now if you quote yourself about a duplicate post, doesn't that make it a triplicate post?

 :axe:

meanwhile, back to the videos...I think the last time that I saw a Connie was probably 1995 at Andrews AFB. Wish I had known that was gonna be it.
