That's so freaking neat!

The Viggen has been one of my favorite aircraft of all times.

Thank you for the link!

That is a neat thing to see. Scores high on the 'multiple unique points in preservation' scale.

Wiki page:
The last Viggen flight took place in June 2007.

Not any more - Well done the Swedes!

FANTASTIC!!!!

I have always loved the Viggen... an incredibly awesome and aggressive-looking aircraft at any angle, with performance to match. It's wonderful to see the Swedes honoring their aviation heritage by preserving airworthy examples of their signal achievements- unlike the US Navy, which has exactly zero Tomcats available for a Heritage Flight, for instance.

Will they be painting her in the well-known crazy splinter scheme from the 70s/80s? :)

Thanks for the update!

Lynn

I had to check the date of your post before I opened it. I thought this was an April Fools joke.

I always loved those Swedish designs.

Nice! I've always been a sucker for the Swedish jets. They all have very nice and unique lines. It would be cool if they flew it in formation with a Gripen or maybe a J.29!

No. The airplane will get the same look as when it first entered service with SwAF. All bare metal with AFB number 7 on the air intakes and call sign 52 on the fin.

It is a "civilian" Viggen in that it has civil registration, but it's obviously not a private warbird. It's part of the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight. Does anybody know why it was civil-registered, assumedly a legal thing of some sort?

Check out this photo of a Swedish Air Force Historic flight formation from last monday including J 29, J 32, J 35, SK 60, AJ 37 and JAS 39.

Is that a Gripen in the lead? If so, is it a Historic Flight aircraft or a Swedish AF unit?

Yes its a Gripen up front, its from the air force while the other aircraft are from the historial flight.
