Armitage Field 1988

Fri Mar 16, 2012 7:26 pm

June of 1988 I attended Aircraft Battle Damage Repair School at NWC China Lake, CA. I was lucky enough to be allowed to go visit Armitage Field and the AMD compound where serverial old Navy aircraft were awaiting disposal. The following picture are some of the airframes held in that compound at the time. Enjoy

Awaiting disposal? I don't suppose these aircraft eventually went to a good home where they will one day be restored to thier former glory.

Very interesting goodies... What's the story on those bulges on the ex-Japanese Sabre?

It's an RF-86, if you look @ the wing to body @ the leading edge of the wing you'll see the camera lens ports fairing and the bulge is to house the camera body. geek

That right Robbie; it was a real surprise to see it. Had not seen the aircraft since about 1958.
Cheers
