Sikorsky HH-52 Landing Gear - Tires Need Help

Wed Mar 07, 2012 8:55 pm

I have gotten involved in helping out on the tail end of a restoration project on a HH-52 Seguard. Does anyone around here have any maintenance experience with the HH-52? I am looking for information on exactly what size tire the main gear took and the tailgear as well. Secondly I am looking for a full set of those tires, they just meed to be able to be mounted and support the aircraft for towing around the airport. If anyone can help direct me or feels like donating a tire it would be gratefully appreciated. Drop me a PM.

Drew,
you might try the Mid Atlantic Air Museum. their HH-52 use to be a flyer. They probably have some spares.

I used to fly on them and work on them. If you can Google an H-52 IPB you'll see the tire sizes. I was also involved in trying to get a set back in 2003 or so for an H-52 at a local museum. They were out there.

I might offer a couple of thoughts.....

1. Prior to towing, make sure the tail wheel lock is "off". Otherwise you'll break it off.
2. Check the MLG and TLG attachment points to make sure they are in good order and not corroded. Pay attention to the sponson's airframe attachment points.
3. If the struts still hold air/nitrogen, give them a shot to make sure the struts aren't bottomed out. It makes a smoother tow.
3. Don't over inflate the tail wheel. I don't recall the psi but it should look a tad low on air.

The CG Aviation Association has 3 or 4 H-52's sitting in storage waiting for rebuild. If I may ask, what airframe number do you have?

Thanks...John

Tire sizes....I put a call out on the USCG network.

Sikorsky model 62//HH-52A tire size. See if Goodyear has them....

Mains = 650x10, PLY = 6TL

TAIL = 5.00x5, PLY = 6TT
