Camarillo Warbirds

Tue Jan 17, 2012 6:10 am

Does anyone have details of Camarillo-based warbirds that are not part of the CAF SOCAL Wing (or the B-25/C-47 nearby)?
I'll be there this coming Sunday morning. According to my notes there are some CJ-6s based, do they fly regularly?
Thanks,
Andy Marden

The intent was well meant. This put a smile on my face. I hope everyone eventually has my site book marked. HOWEVER... To use a Star Wars reference, Andy is the master and I am only a padawan learner. I often reference Andy's books, and if you navigate through my site to a location dossier or many of the airframe dossiers you will find Andy's books credited. If you don't have a copy of one of Andy's books... well, you should. They are a gold mine of excellent information on where to find warbirds. Think of it as the Locator in print form except with more integrity. Andy puts much effort into getting it right.

I suspect Andy is traveling to So Cal on a research trip to prepare for the publishing of a suspected upcoming edition of his book Military Out of Service, US. The last edition was 2010, and he expect to reissue every two years.

If anyone can help Andy with a survey of interesting former military aircraft on the ramp at Camarillo I know he will appreciate it, and I will as well when I buy my copy of the next edition.

Mike

FYI, the long-time ramp resident Percival Prentice flew out last year to Van Nuys, it has since moved on again after a few months parked out at VNY

There is one CJ-6 based at Santa Paula airport, which is 20 minutes away. The owner normally flies it every weekend (or so it seems) but we're supposed to have rain this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
