Instrument Panel from P-51 44-14570 sold on ebay

I only just saw this on e-bay, and it went a couple of months ago, but I thought it was worth noting.

If you look at the radio id, it clearly shows the aircraft the panel came from is 44-14570, which I believe is the P-51D on display at Barksdale AFB. Sure would be nice to reunite these two if it were possible. I wonder when the panel was removed from the aircraft? My guess is many, many years ago, judging by the grime.

If in fact original, which I am sure it is, it came out of the same airframe that was Maj. 'Mac' McKennon's "Ridge Runner", and then went onto become "Thunderbird" when assigned to Capt. Ted Lines, and then assigned to Lt. 'Chuck' Konsler, seeing action with the 335th FS, 4th FG - a very storied aircraft! As mentioned on another board, it is almost surprising it wasn't going for more than it did (it was a "buy now" item). The aircraft on display at Barksdale, seems to only have 44-14570 superficially applied to it - at least as far as I recall.

(Personally, I'd be curious if the gages still glowed)

Thanks for the details... it is indeed a seriously historic piece then, and you are right.... it should have gone for more. I hope it went to a good home. It really did look like the real deal!

Hi Richard a personal friend of mine is the owner of said panel , he has being able to trace its provence back to when the A/C was scrapped , including when the german guage was fitted , an incredible and rare piece to have .

One would have to question the id of the Mustang displayed at Barksdale AFB
