B-29 "FiFi" Electrical Mods... info needed for C-97...

Tue Nov 22, 2011 11:22 am

I have PMed B29B24CrewChief on 2 occasions and have not gotten a response, so I'm putting this out there to anyone affiliated with Fifi and the specifics of her restoration/ Electrical system

We understand that the CAF has replaced the old rotary inverters with solid state ones.

We are investigating doing this on our C-97 and I'd like the technical details as to what you did, what parts you used, and what systems you removed, and retained. We're looking to keep flourescent lights, fuel gauges, turbo control and the 26V step down transformer for the engineer gauges.

Anything not essential we are eliminating.

What type inverters did you use, what is their rating? How did you wire it in? what kind of info did you need for the FAA?

We'd also like as much technical data as you can provide.

We'd use this as reference material, as even though the systems are similar, they are not identical.

Can anyone provide me with this kind of info?

Also, have you guys changed the seals in the nose strut oleo? We have a leaky one, and I've obtained the Oleo manuals, but we may have a hard time locating the proper tools..

We're starting to make real good progress simplifying this airplane and getting her ready for flight. This is just one more step on our road to airworthiness.

Thanks a lot for any assistance you might be able to provide!

Kevin:

Contact them through their website. I'm sure Dave Miller will tell you what he knows. With all the barbs being hurled at them about the B-24 nose art I bet none of the principals pay attention to WIX anymore.
