F-84 progress! At last...

Thu Oct 20, 2011 6:40 pm

After seven long months of preperation we have at least reached a point where we can start painting. Last week the F-84F was moved into our work hangar and we started the last cleanup and sanding areas that were a little "rough". This morning we had planned to just test the spray equipment loaned to us by a friend of the museum, but things went so well that we decided to apply a little paint. By the time we broke for lunch we had about a quarter of the airframe primed. There are some runs, some drips and some areas that will need more attention, but it feels good to have come this far!

By this time next week we should be ready to apply the stars and bars.

Seven months of working in the hot sun. Seven months of putting up with the wind and for the other two volunteers seven months of having to put up with me.

She'll be in the three tome SEA scheme.

This is the artwork I created to show the museum what she will look like:

Thanx couldn't recall if you were settled on this or just 'blue skying' either way, cannot wait ot see the finished project. We had one @ the A&P school I went to over 45 years ago.

yesterday I was able to prime all most all of the plane. It is amazing how a little make up makes a girl look better.

Looks great! BTW the cleaning, sanding and priming of the Newark F-4 took at least half the time...once you get going with a sprayer on the camo it moves quick!

Day number.... Well, I'm not sure how many, but a lot. Yesterday I sprayed the SEA lightt gray on the underside and today we sprayed the tan on the upper. I took the following two photos and before leaving the hangar aoutlined the areas for the light green. Dang! Now the real job gets in the way of painting for a few days.

Thanks, I really need information on stencilling, if at all possible.

And I have photos to add when I get off of work today.
