Don't think anyone will get these planes, they are located in Zimbawe.

Today 1 pound Sterling is .6419=1 U.S. Dollar. I'd be really cautious since at least one hasn't been weighed since 1980 and I'll bet they are just alive with nasty creepy crawlies, and really funky nasty rain water residue. Maybe as parts and spares but they could also be riddled with corrosion and engines look to be mid life or upper mid life and have been sitting for over a decade. I'll bet all control cables are iron and rusty to the max, pulleys all dry rotted, and rigging a DC-3 ain't a lot of fun in a nice hanger let alone out on a dirt field in high temperatures.

THIS web page seems to give the former US and RAF serials for these airframes, if that's of any interest.

All the best,
PB

The C-47s are at the military terminal Manyanye Zimbabwe Air force base at the south end of Harare Airport. You can see all 7 on Google Earth. Goodness what a shame. There's also what looks like a Canberra bomber sitting nearby. The Long/Lat is 17deg 55' 45.98" S and 31deg 05' 57.42" E.

Is "Buffalo Joe" a collector or are you referring to the seeler - in that case it may be me :)....

Hi guys. Thanks for the thread and I appreciate the information you found on these aircraft. Do you mind if I put it on the website where the aircraft are advertised?

It is a shame to see the neglect on these aricraft. Alas hopefully someone will put them to good use either for restoration or use the parts on other old birds.

Regards Hawkpig

It's a reference to Joe McBryan, the head of Buffalo Airways (Canada) who operate DC-3s including what is claimed to be the last scheduled passenger service in the world.

I don't know that he'd be interested given the AvGas situation in the Territories. Electras do most of the heavy hauling now, the C-46s for the dirty work and the DC-3s for various odd jobs. Basler is a possibility although their yard at Oshkosh is already full of old airframes.

I think there's a reasonable chance these airplanes will find buyers, the ZAF no doubt keep meticulous records and it sounds like effort has been made to look after them. Only question I have is why they held onto them for so long.
