Aircraft Wheel Hub Help

Hi All,

Me again with another hair pulling puzzle. I came across this wheel hub on the beach with a few bits of oyster encrusted aluminium strips around. It is aluminum and is about 12 inches across, looks aircraft to me. I don't think its off a car or trailer as there are no nut holes present anywhere and the diameter is to small. However I could be wrong. Any thoughts...

It could be.
What is the size of it?
Normally there would be several bolt holes in a circle for bolting the halves together.

Hi,

Yeah its only about 12 inches (bout 30 cm) across... I couldn't turn it over so I don't know what it looks like underneath. Will go back today and have another look and see if I can get it turned over.

I actually this its Japanese in origin...see picture bellow from Ki-43. Yes I know different number of spokes but its a start.

Part of a nautical type pulley? like from a sailboat?

Hi that's thrown me a bit now...as a good guess however I'm still leaning towards tire for these reasons...

If you look at the rim from the side you can see where the tire went...most nautical pulleys have flat drums...this one has a divot in the side for where the tire is held in place....

I went back and it had max loading 896 lb written on the side. I therefore assume its a winch from a boat.

I therefore concede defeat by trawler capstan... hats off to the inspector.

I think it is an old trailer wheel. The max load of 800 lbs is about right for a small trailer wheel. I see nothing about that that looks like part of anything marine related. It appears to be aluminum or magnesium. Few marine items would be made of that due to the corrosion issue. I live only a few miles away from the Gulf of Mexico, so we see a LOT of marine stuff here. It clearly looks like a drop center tire rim to me.
