Warbird Carrier Landing Training?

Wed Sep 21, 2011 3:47 pm

Question for anyone who may know, and despite the title this is probably more Gen Av than warbirds per se ...

Potomac Airfield's (in Maryland, just South of Andrews Air Force Base and East of National Harbor) Runway 24 has carrier deck markings applied to one end. Amusing, but confusing as well since I've never heard of the USN conducting training there.

Best thought a friend and I had was that the airfield's community has a population of pilots who like shooting carrier-like approaches and got the runway marked to suit their wishes. But it was just a guess. Anyone know better?

That would be my guess.

At 2665 x 40, I don't think you'll see too many fixed wing military aircraft going in there.
