This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Just thinking, with Rod Lewis' newly finished Pearl Harbor P-40C, that now makes three early P-40C long noses actively flying:
TFC
FHC
Rod Lewis'
And of course TFC's Hawk 75A should get a very honorable mention in there. So with this one done now, are there any more that are in restoration, can be a candidate for future restoration or have yet to be recovered? I like many of you here I'm sure love the early P-40 and it would be nice to see more in the air. New-built or original aircraft restored.

There's a P-40C at the Naval Museum in Pensacola.

Yeah I was thinking, that's four. How many of the early birds were pulled out of Russia in total?

The Warbird Directory lists 10 P-40B/C identities. That includes wrecks and static display, but does not include 'lost' and is therefore current (to three years ago).

Hello, I was part of the CWHA, we were the group that started the restoration of "297", the P-40 that now belongs to TFC. When TFC took over the project, we also gave them the wrecage from 2 other P-40s that came from the Sierras, in addition to the fusalage tooling and fixtures. At that time, 10 years ago or so, finding long nose Allisons was the biggest problem.

And not to stir the pot, but the P-40 at the Navy museum if a replica and far from being airworthy.

There's another Hawk 75 being restored to fly here in New Zealand. Isn't the main issue with the long nose early P40 the rarity of the engine?

I once bumped into a guy who claimed to have helped restore the P-40 at the Naval Aviation Museum. He claimed that they used P-40N wings..can anyone confirm? They look like B/C wings to my untrained eye..if they're N wings, they've been considerably modified.

From what I recall the Pensicola P40 is cobbled together from parts and not may of them were from B or C's. Its really not a restoration as much as static dispaly recreation.
