Aviation Nation and vintage CSAR demo

Sun Sep 04, 2011 11:59 pm

Hello out there! Does anyone know who is putting the vintage CSAR demo (Spad, O-2 and F-4) demo together - is this the CF? I would love to know and I was thinking that it seems short a Huey. Anyway would love to hear!

We have been doing a demo in Texas for quite a few years. Vietnam War Flight Museum with aircraft belonging to Rick Sharpe has the Skyraider, A-26, AC-47 Spooky, and a Huey. I have the O-2A. He and I have done demos for about 8-9 years at many small and medium shows and other aircraft have joined us at some shows. Cavanaugh's OV-1, Caribou C-7 and H-13 helo. Group of privately owned Hueys and Cobra from Midland area and assorted privately owned O-1s and T-28s. Collings Huey has regularly participated in several of the shows in recent years as did the A-4 at WOH for a couple of years. They also had the F-4 on static there. This was not as organized as it might become in the future as the demo depended on who showed up at shows and if the organizers were agreeable to including it. Most shows did see the advantage of including it in recent years as that's the era which is giving us the audience. Due to recent events with a large TX show, we may get more organized and put on a more complete Vietnam demo in the future.

Thanks for the reply! Sounds really cool. When I saw this one at Nellis I started woindering about asking around to maybe have one at the Wendover show in 2012. It would seem though that you really need a helicopter and I am unaware of any vintage looking helos in the intermountain region.

Helos, ground re-enactors and pyro really add to the whole picture. Not sure what is available up that way. There used to be a group in CO that did this many years ago.....not sure what happened to their aircraft. IIRC I remember they had a helo.

Karen, I believe you're thinking of the guy that Rick's Skyraider came from. Don't know where the other aircraft went to.

We did something similar in Terre Haute a few years ago, SPAD, F-100, O-2 and a Huey.
It was pretty neat!

Ah ha I didn't realize that's where Uncle Ho came from......I've slept too many nights since I saw that group and that was during my pre O2 days flying the little itty bitty thang.

I was flying the Huey at last years Nellis show. The Skyraiders belonged to Danny Summers, and were flown by Danny Summers and John Muzala. The F-4 in the show was one of the USAF's heritage bird.
