Possibly the best bomber ride opportunity of 2011 ?

I've been lucky enough to attend the Wings Over Houston Air Show a number of times and I've always been amazed by the line up of aircraft selling rides
after the show on Saturday evening.

This years event seems to top them all !

The problem is ~ they all tend to launch after the show at roughly the same time ~ so it's a case of pick ONE

I assume you've already flown in some of these types of planes, so I eliminate those. Since the Helldiver and Fifi are the only ones of those type that fly I would have to make my pick from those two.

Best bomber ride?

The CWH Lancaster will ferry from Hamilton to Ottawa and back this Sept 16 or 17, for the Battle of Britain flypast. You can sponsor a spot as crew member. They may have others going as well.

They are not bombers, but Collings Foundation has the F-4 and TA-4 ride programs based there at Ellington Field and I am sure Rick and the rest of the guys there in Houston would love to get them out of the hangar to take you for a ride that weekend. We can even be a little flexible on time so that you have time to fit those other rides in as well.

Remembering you have already been in TEXAS RAIDERS, the B-24, various B-25s and the Lancaster- which would take a small diversion from Ellington Field...

FIFI- hands down. And pay the extra whack for the nose position.
If it is already sold out for the show- then there is your answer- FIFI in the back, AND the SB2C.

Having just spent a few hours flying at the engineer's panel this morning, I highly recommend a ride in "FIFI"!

Of the B-25's, the Yellow Rose is (in my humble opinion) the best to ride in. It's not the most historically accurate inside, but because of that there is easy movement from the nose to the tail, and everyone is encouraged to do just that during their ride.

At the Reading WW2 weekeng I thought I would really like to be in the "front seat" in FIFI. All front seats were reserved before I got on the computor. So I took the flight deck seat "pilot observer" directly behind the pilot. I think I took the best seat on the plane . The front seat gave a beautiful view but you couldn't move from that position per. FAA. My seat across from the flight engineer and behind the pilot I got to see everything the crew went thru . Their check out procedure, firing up those beautiful sounding engines, tapping gauges with their fingers to see if the needle was sticking all the little things they did to get this great bird aloft. Then we unbuckled and roamed about, swapping positions with other flight deck passengers exchanging cameras and taking each others pictures,looking into the bomb bay, pictures thru the tunnel at the rear compartment passengers, 360 degree video thru the plex bubble on top just really cool. I just joined WIX and I enjoy reading the posts. So far I have flown in the Collings B24 and B 17 and only one more 4 engine bomber, the Lancaster,(I wish) to complete my bucket list. Then its time for the twin engined beasts starting with "Hot Stuff" maybe Cavanaughs A-26 "Hard To Get" and Collings B-25 "Tondelayo". Bye for now.

The ride in FIFI this summer was great, awesome, and one of the best times I spent in a plane, and being the only B29 in operational I had to go for that one first. Next will be a 24 then a 17, 26 and finally a 25 I give it in that order only based in the number of airframes that are in flying condition. Before my flight in FIFI I was talking with the guy’s from the Yankee Warrior B-25, they were jabbing me about taking a ride in FIFI and saying it will cost less than half to go for a ride with them. This jabbing was in all in good intent and I have nothing but love for all these airframes. But I made my list (I guest a bucket list) based on the number or air worthy planes of each. I really hope to see more example’s of each still flying or return to the air! Liberty bell 2, T- Square, Lucky lady, Champaign lady, Swamp Ghost, save the lady in the Lake B29 just to name a few, a lot of ladies on that list!
