I am trying to find any and all pictures that I can gather of Stinson L-1 aircraft. If you have any, please send them to me via ryan at lbirds.com
Thanks!

Hate to be dense, Ryan, but could you post some sample photos so I can be on the lookout?

Here is a photo of the subject airplane that I took at the Orange County Airport (Santa Ana, CA) circa 1958-59. The aircraft may have have been part of the Paul Mantz collection as it was parked in the general vicinity. It appears to have been used as a crop duster. Also, in W.T. Larkins book, Surplus WWII U.S. Aircraft, pg. 137 there is a photo of another surplus L-1E (amphibious) taken at Grand Central AIrport ( Los Angeles) and interestingly it serialed NX-63229 . As a point of interest the RAF received a few via lend-lease. The aircraft was also known as the O-49.

jdvoss,
Thanks for that! That's one photo that I have NOT seen before! Our squadron (Alamo Liaison Squadron) used to have an L-1, but I think that it is in Alaska now. I wish I had been a pilot and part of the squadron back in the day. I would love to have flown the beast.
I'm having a model of one commissioned for use in our upcoming museum.

I shot this Stinson L-1 at the Wings Over Houston, in Sept. 1986. With my apologies for the quality, because I just took a picture of a picture, in order to provide you with an image.
Althouth I tried to find an "N" number, I could not find any on the photo or my data for that airshow.
Saludos,
Tulio

Ryan-
Like this? From a private collection (mine!). I just acquired this and three more of the same airplane as part of a big stack of 1939-1940 images... If not, what in the heck is this?

The picture in Houston was of the Alamo Liason Group L-1 back in the day. I have several pictures of it Ryan all in the silver war games paint if you need them. I believe the Weeks L-1 came from the Tallmantz collection. The only two privately held L-1s in existance that I know of. There is a funny story about the L-1s trip to Houston that year. Next time we meet remind me to tell it.

Weeks L-1 was the victim of the Hurricane before he moved. Very slow coming back but I believe it is coming along now. Hope to see it fly soon. Only airplane that could ever keep up with the Storch in a slow race. It actually beat me once at Stinson.(The airfield not the plane)
