Few photos from Friday and Saturday at Geneseo.
Please feel free to add yours from the weekend here also.

There is already another thread for the unfortunate incidents.
I only ask if you have anything for that, you post there.
Thanks

Bill S, it was nice to meet you this weekend over by the Top Gun tent. Nice pics!

There appeared to be a very low WIX'er turnout this year so I'll give a quick review for those of you who couldn't make it.

Geneseo was blessed with 3 days of beautiful weather this year. Cool clear and dry. As always Geneseo was it's perfect blend of laid back atmosphere as a fly-in/airshow/family reunion type gathering. The show was well run and the flying did not disappoint. I had an incredibly relaxing weekend.

Arriving at the field on Friday one was in for a bit of confusion. The parking layout we've know for years was totally scrapped for this year due to the deluge the the valley experienced this spring. ALL of the aircraft parking was concentrated on the SW end of the field near the hangars where the ground was packed like concrete. In the past the classics/transports staged from here only. But the area which housed the trainers, fighters and bombers was completely devoid. I did not even see cars parked over there. This whole wet field issue really had an effect on the show. Aircraft attendance was down this year. It may have been that the rumors of condition scared away some attendees, or the other reason I heard was that the HAG had a real fear of not being able to park all of the planned on aircraft. This may be the reason why the additional 3 Harvards arrived on Saturday as parking was found to not be an issue.

If you attended last year then you did not miss anything this year. The line up was exactly the same as far as warbirds goes, with some from the CWH not in attendance. There were disapointments.

The much anticipated Tobul F4U-4 Corsair was a no show.

While Tom Duffy was there, his Spitfire was not. Rumor was he had a lot of people who wanted to attend the show so he negotiated bringing them in the B-25 TOT.

Not sure if this was the reason but the CWH B-25 was a no show. I wanted to see this Mitchell again. Last year the CWH was there with the Lysander and Firefly, but they only showed up on Saturday with the C-45.

The TBM Ida Red was a no-show.

The "special guest" B-26B Invader was a welcome sight, but it would have been nice to try and coordinate the crew to attend and fly in the show. No one had an answer as to the future of this aircraft and it's flying status.

All the other listed aircraft were present and flew, except for the SBD which did not on Sunday due to a MX issue. On the plus side new acts added were the Kent Pietsch Jelly Belly routine, the L-39 Warrior One (which staged out of ROC) that flew with WOLI's Mustang, and the Liberty Jump Team. It was neat to see the static line drop of WW2 equipped jumpers out of a real D-Day veteran. I admit to the "gotcha" moment as my heart stopped when Kent did the aileron falling off the Interstate Cadet routine! That was a new take on the "flying farmer" routine and I never expected to see a plane fly without an aileron.

Kudos to HAG for getting the show completed on Saturday under difficult circumstances. Before 0900 two arriving GA aircraft were landing in formation. The V-tail Bonanza got slow and dropped it in from 50' resulting in the left wing impacting the ground and the nose gear being ripped off. This caused a one hour delay in the start of the show as the plane had to be moved off the runway to clear the show safety zone. As a result the L-birds and classics were canceled.

As has been reported during the WW1 set, one of the DR1's lost power at 600 feet. The resulting forced landing into the corn field delayed the show another hour and a half. Luckily the pilot was not injured and the show picked up again with some of the acts but not many cancelled. The crowd was very patient and turnout seemed greater on Saturday than Sunday.

Sunday's show was exactly to schedule. Pics and video to follow.

Peter
Thanks for the review. I was very interested in what I missed this year. Sounds like a great show even with a lot of "no Shows" and a few problems.

TIM! You didn't go to the show this year either?!?! Aw man! I'd like to re-apologize again to everyone that did make it to "The Turf", for me and the old man being a no-show and instead being dragged to Sanibel Island F.L. for our next door neighbor's wedding. The trip had been planned for over a year and couldn't be called off. Moreover we also missed the Connecticut Air & Space Center's Open House that Drew aka "Cherrybomber13" headed up for locals to come and check out our stuff. He (along with the rest of the volunteer crew) did an amazing job at getting the word out there about our efforts. So really the weekend of July 9th and 10th would have been awesome if I could have cloned myself 3 times!......................... okay maybe 4 so I could go to Duxford too. :D

I have a funny feeling that next year's show at Geneseo will be way larger. Just a hunch that the stars will align more properly.

The three Harvards that came in on Saturday did so because they were a last-minute addition and a previously booked local flyover for Saturday morning prevented them from flying down on Friday.

Bill "Never Miss" Scheuerman.

A great shot of the P-51D.

I think the name on that Mustang should be your handle!

Cheers,

Tom Walsh.

Wish he would recruit a few other pilots to take some of his other birds like the Corsair, P-47, and Spitfire up to Geneseo while he can fly his family / friends in the 25 still. Boy what a sight that would be to see those four in a diamond formation!

The TBM Ida Red was a no-show.

Peter,

a small point, but one that must be made. The TBM Ida Red was in Lost Nation, Ohio this past weekend and was never scheduled to be at Geneseo this year. While I would have preferred to have gone to Geneseo, a show I have been going to since 1984 in its various forms, the owner of the plane committed to Lost Nation many months ago before realizing the shows were on the same weekend. A good time was had by all.

Hey Glenn,

Are you and Ida coming back to Wisconsin anytime soon?

Glenn,

You and Ida were sorely missed this year. HAG site had a TBM listed and showed Ida's pic so that's where that came from. Wasn't sure if reports of field conditions or that great steak they serve up Saturday is what kept you away? :D

Pete

Hopefully next year!

Agreed! Always enjoy seeing Ida on the ground, but especially in the air.
