Sun Jul 03, 2011 5:59 am

Seafire SX336 belly-landed yesterday after gear failed to go down. Pilot Anna Walker was OK. The aircraft has suffered moderate damage.

I am pleased that no-one was hurt and that the Seafire was only lightly damaged according to the reports so far.Hope this is correct on inspection. It is a beautiful aeroplane.

Fantastic job, Anna, holding it off as long as you did and trying to get the bird and YOU down in one piece....success in both categories. The plane will fly again as will you. Never a nicer person have I met at an english airshow.

Absolutely textbook, got it down as slowly and easily as she could under the circumstances... sorry to see SX336 will be out of order for a while, but thankfully it's not terminal damage.

Good show Anna, well done ma'am!

Look at what the Pilots Handbook for a Spitfire says about getting the landing gear down. Suggestions go up to and include inverting the aircraft.
Quite a good landing, BTW.
