Hi again Colonel,
Is there a link to that satellite image you could post? Thanks!

Rob,

The recent Harvard IV Banned thread mentioned your name in discussion of "provactive comments" and "disruptive influence", and assuming that was in part in a tongue in cheek by Scott, I chose not to comment there.

I do know some people complain about your grammar, and "political" positions on issues etc (returning B24's etc) and at various times you have withdrawn from participation and even flagged permanent departure.

However I have always been impressed by the depth of commitment and knowledge you have to resolving the issue of the US Navy either recovering what is worth recovering, or stepping a side and permitting others to do it while the items 'they claim owenership of" are still are viable for recovery and at least static display etc.

This thread being a perfect example!!, I for one will put you down for sainthood!!

Your efforts in this regard deserves all of our ongoing respect and gratitude and support - please keep up the good work, :P :finga:

and keep advising us all of how this pressure needs to be maintained on the Navy. :rip:

:supz:

Hey Rob,

I cannot locate a hi-rez sat. image either that shows the detail you mentioned. Would you please post one as my curiousity is peaked. :o Thanks in advance

"It land in the lagoon and the plane is still their"

Yeah that's always the problem with Navy isn't it, it's still there but it's still their's. Saw on LA's KNBC news that pieces of a Corsair were pulled up off of Santa Barbara last week but the Coast Guard would not let the guy keep them.

We have a aying in my part of the wood, which would need to be ajusted a bit.

"Shot, Shovel and Shut-up" Some day the storm will clear.

Where'd you go Rob?

I too am curious to see how you identified a crashed aircraft in 35 feet of water in a lagoon apparently littered with other aircraft from a satellite immage.

WIX "PROJECT"?

Sat Jul 02, 2005 11:44 pm

Rob, (& Scott?)

As I said earlier, "so what do you want us to do?, how do we help"?

I dont think we should all simply be sitting here, individually just agreeing with you (as we all sit alone in front of our PC's spread around the world) that NHC doing nothing for 20 years is a problem, what we should consider is what is our solution.

WIX appears to have many energetic, well informed regulars, and many more passing through visitors, who I am sure are united in the idea of preserving our (mankinds) heritage, and in particular rescueing certain types from extinction. (flying or even static)

"WIX PROJECT"??????

WIX has spoken of a "project" for a long time, and I dont for a second propose that WIX tries to fund this recovery or restore it, and no one is yet sure this a/c is worth recovering in any case.

However if Scott was to make this post a sticky, and make this a/c the "mascot" PROJECT of WIX, whereby WIX members write to government representatives, NHC, etc en-masse, I am sure we could put pressure on to achieve "something"?

If there is a logical outcome, and enough people jump up and down about the problem, then government (or media) will listen.

I have had a similar result in a 7 year campaign in another heritage issue with a similiar defence entity to NHC. - People Power, and the Might of the Pen can work, the "email" CC: works even better!!

Rob could be the Project Manager, and he is already progressing to give us a full brief of what this a/c is , and where it is, and why its important.

He could complete that briefing and then launch the project by telling us who to write to, and then meeting/communicating directly with NHC and giving us update of success or progress of our efforts.

WIX members can get other friends and enthusiasts to sign an electronic petition here on the WIX Board, or send their own surface mail letters to the influencers Rob points us at.

Perhaps WIX and its members could put pressure on NHC to achieve > :

? the first should be a physical inspection and photographic documentation of its condition and situation.

? consideration of the viability of recovery by "anyone"?

? clarification of this a/c role in the National Heritage collections of the US Government?

? release to other interested parties to recover if it is viable to recover buty not wanted by a National Institution.

? Encouraging a bonefide group to recover it for display in a bonefide museum?

? leave it to become a war grave or historic artifact where it is and rot away.

In WIX adopting this a/c and issue as a "project", WIX could allow many to actually achieve something in aviation heritage (seperate to just armchair or internet interests in active warbirds), and this would in affect be a test case to Rob's long argued positions anyway???

we dont know what can be achieved if we dont try,
but its certain we will achieve nothing, if we dont try anything.

I have enough projects on my plate already, but I will sign a petition, or write one or more letters to where-ever the should go to make a difference for this specific cause, and the wider issues behind it.

does anyone else agree??

Or are we all actually going to be part of the problem too, by also not doing anything?

Mark Pilkington

I have to agree, Mark, you make some very good points! Your train of thought seems to continue on the same line as Robs and others here on the WIX. A sticky with an electronic petition and one with a list of mailing/e-mail addresses of senators and congressmen for an all out web assault on faulty NHC policies that allow national artifacts and treasures to deteriorate to an unsalvageable/unsaveable state. This might just be the ticket to get some attention on the subject. At least as a first campaign. I had a talk with Rob today and I like some of his ideas, which I believe he will bring up to you personally.

WIX project #1

Mon Jul 04, 2005 9:15 am

Hey,
Some of the best idea coalescence since I have been here. Here is something people CAN do from their PC's, something that Rob Rohr can orchestrate with his knowledge, and something which WILL put WIX on the map as a serious entity in the warbird community, which I consider it as already.
The ideas of a WIX aircraft going to a show are more realistic with the increased membership we would have by doing such an important chore in the AVIATION heritage of the world. Chime in, everybody- I'm putting up the POLL today.

At last, the satellite image that proves this isn't complete bunkum!!

Well, no-one else was presenting any hard evidence this plane is still there. I had to do it!

Tue Jul 05, 2005 9:21 am

Wow ! Dave you have apparently found a completely unknown Brewster on EASTER Island !! The one Rob was describing is in the lagoon off of Eastern Island, Midway !!

Buffy Found

Tue Jul 05, 2005 11:52 am

Dave! What a splendid find!! Will you use the original 1940's rubber, or
will we be subjected to yet another incorrect powerplanted restoration?
Will it be at Wanaka?

Tue Jul 05, 2005 4:25 pm

Rick,

I am afraid your incorrect in regard to this, Dave is simply adjusting the nominated location to allow for the effects of El Nino ocean currents in relocating the wreck in the 20 years since Rob notified NHC!!

Dave, I think its amazing how well the markings have been preserved!
