Very good news. Hope the 262 can be flown and shown quite often. It took quite the same time for Messerschmitt Stiftung (Foundation) / EADS Heritage Flight to get theirs airworthy again. Any info what kind of bug(s) took that long to fix?
Great to hear Collings get theirs flying again.

If this is the one that was at Sanders' I think it was still bent from the gear collapse that occurred during the initial flight test. There were a number of other problems as well that needed to be addressed to make it a reliable flyer.

It is the one at the Sander's shop. A famous Bear driver  did the flying.

Repairs from the gear collapse and redesign of the weak landing gear were fully documented by the project from January 2003 to June 2004, after which test flights resumed. So, it was fixed.

A Messerschmitt with weak gear?!? Say it ain't so....it was Designed that way! At least the new engines are FAR more reliable and powerful.

No,... it wasn't fixed. The gear collapsed just after landing at Sanders when it was first delivered.

The aircraft is now powered by freshly overhauled CJ610-8As. About a 1000 lbs of extra thrust per side.

As I understand it the plane still flew crooked after it was rebuilt when the gear collapsed in Washington.

That is what I understand as well from someone who should know.

Here are a couple of pictures that were taken by one of our volunteers. There was a photographer there from an aviation publication, so there will be more pictures made public at some point.
