Post War German Occupation Stripes

Fri May 13, 2011 3:35 pm

Does anyone have any more photos to add of occupation stripes? I've tried looking up some info for their use, why they were used, how long they were in use, were they on fighters only?, etc. But I haven't had much luck so far. Anyone know? I thought there was a thread on WIX somewhere with more info but it doesn't come up in the search.

This is a fantastic photo of some 355th Mustangs...

There's several more Mustangs from the 355th FG at Little Friends.UK (top of the page)

I also found a couple of color drawings (an L-5 and a P-61) near the end of Dana Bell's "Air Force Colors Vol. 2"

I'd assume that's what these stripes are. From the old Richard Ward, book on the Mustang

Interesting. I've only seen the stripes on Mustangs and Thunderbolts. At the Grissom Air Museum, they have one of the Kepner's A-2 jackets with a P-47 painted on the back, with occupation stripes.

Little Friends has quite a few good occupation color photos!
