"Spitty" Time !

Wed May 04, 2011 1:10 pm

I popped into Duxford today so I could provide another update the B-17 ~ Mary Alice thread in the WIX Restoration Hangar.

During my visit ~ I was lucky enough to see something of a parade of Spitfires

First up is the one which is up for sale ( AR213 ) ~ as recently discussed ......

Image

It was out on a systems ( brakes ?? ) test at lunch time

By late afternoon it was ready to make another test run ~ this time fully buttoned up

Image

The two-seat Spitfire T.9 operated by the Grace family departed to it's regular home at Bentwaters

However it was what I found behind hangar three that got my pulse racing ( that might be just high blood pressure )

Image

It seems the Imperial War Museum had arranged a photo opportunity for a handful of "pro" photographers !

Image

I walked around the corner of the hangar just as they were finishing up

Image

With both airplanes about to go straight back into the hangar ~ every second counts .....

All in all ~ another really fantastic day at Duxford :D

Thanks guys !

It was just pure luck that I stumbled upon them.

As always ~ you wish there was more time to think about composing shots etc ~ but there never is in these situations.
I think I had maybe 3-5 mins max.

I did walk away wearing a big silly grin though :D

The thing i think i miss most about not living in England anymore is the lack of Spitfires in the states,,, that and steak and kidney pies. Oh, and Millers pork pies,, lol. Great pics,, many thanks. JT
