Can anyone tell me what the name of the style or font is that was used/required on all aircraft in the immediat post-war era? Blocked style..similar to the type that was used on Navy hull numbers.

Do you mean the buzz numbers ? AFAIK those were in the standard 'Amarillo USAF' font, which can be downloaded from a number of websites
per Google.
