I would respectfully disagree, those ARE warbirds! Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and for the 130 and H-53s even more storied warbird history.

I'm petty sure that the black strips on the side of the fuselage on the B-17 are non-skid wingwalk material.We used something similar on tankers to help in climbing over the top to get to the other wing while fuelling.Some tankers even had an aluminum step riveted to the same area for that purpose.

Hi Chad. Unfortunately, the skin on Maid in the Shade was not bad enough to replace but had a green etch prime that no matter what we used, was not going to polish out so the decision was maid to paint the entire aircraft. We would have loved to keep her bare metal if we could.

I absolutely love the pictures! Getting those planes down there was no easy task. A lot of hard work and long days by a couple of dozen dedicated members got the work done just in time. We had six planes scheduled to go down to Yuma and the week before we had three down at El Centro so maintenance time was short. I spent last week in Louisiana getting fatter on Cajun food so I can’t take any credit. Seeing these pictures makes me proud to be a member of SoCal.

I kind of figured it was something along those lines Chris. In fact I think I've seen that information posted here before. Nothing critical meant by my post by the way. The B-25 is absolutely first rate. But the photos Bill posted really bring home just how attractive and interesting a well maintained NM finish is compared to silver paint. I enjoy the opportunity of seeing both aircraft either way!
