What is this? No really, What is it?

Thu Mar 24, 2011 5:24 pm

Ok WIX folks, put your thinking caps on as we have a doosy for you.

Mark Howard, Steve Link and I were at Marks Hanger in Oklahoma doing what every good WIXER does, talk Airplanes!

Mark showed us this nice relic he picked up from Gary Austins collection. However we all looked at each other shrugged our shoulders and said, cool, what is this for?

Check out the picture and see if you can help!

Possibly the mount on one of the 5 engined B-17's test-beds? Hard to gauge the size from the photo, but it looks pretty big.

Really? Wow, ok, sounds weird, but big brother is not watching you as much as you like to think.

judging by the photo, i will guess that it is an engine mount for one of two turboprop powered YC-97J's.

Still a facebook sign - in, and are you aware that if you are on facebook ALL your personal info that's in your phone, including ALL your contacts phone numbers is sold off by them ? Same if you play 'Angry Birds' on your phone. or 'Farmville' on your computer.

why do I care that they are selling my name off on a list? It's already being done umpteen billion times anyway. What other personal info am I stupid enough to post or list so they can sell it, certainly not my phone number, address, or spending habits. All of which is easily obtainable on the internet anyway if you care to look. The whole facebook phobia thing is silliness imo.

You don't have to give out any of that information if you don't want to. All I have is my name and email and thats it.

My wife likes to play farmville.

Gary had a thread about this mount and I don't recall that we really determined what it came from. Kevin's idea of the YC-97J makes sense, but didn't those airplanes end up being recycled into the earliest turboprop Guppies? Perhaps it's from one of the turboprop Constellation conversions.

Turboprop nose mount for the 5 engined B-17? I remember Gary's thread. Someone should search for it
