Friends Morn after Tragic Plane Crash

Danny Joe Summers of Sugar City was expected to land at the Idaho Falls Airport Tuesday night after a short hour-long flight from Wendover and now investigators are wondering what went wrong.
According to the Idaho Transportation Department, Summers was flying a 1952 Korean War era single engine airplane. The wreckage was located by a unit of the Idaho Wing of the Civil Air Patrol in a remote section of the Sawtooth National Forest in Twin Falls County.
Summers was believed to be the pilot of the aircraft. A female passenger was also on board. The two were returning from a weekend trip to Wendover.
The loss is being felt up and down the valley as the pilot was an active member in the aviation community. He spent much of his time at the Rexburg airport and in Idaho Falls where he worked closely with an airplane restoration company.
I spoke with a representative of the Pacific Fighter Restoration Company and they said that they are having a tough time right now as they considered him a close friend. Also, the company used a significant portion of their resources to help located the wreckage.
The search effort was hampered by snow in the area which caused low visibility and made travel treacherous. Crews used snowmobiles and ATV's to try and reach the site which was located by an aircraft Wednesday morning.
The pilot was also an influential member of the potato community. He was the owner of Summer Farms in the upper valley.
