Thanks for posting this story, and it's one of the reasons I'm so thankful for this site-without it, this story would just slip away and probably not be heard outside the immediate family and this is EXACTLY the type story that fills in the 'little gaps' in history and rounds out the whole story.

That is why i posted it. The little stuff is just as important.

Couldn't have said it better myself! One of the reasons I love my job running EAA's Timeless Voices of Aviation oral history program is that I get to hear so many "little" stories like this one that do not show up in the history books. Thanks for sharing!

This article also ran in my local paper, with a different photo of Goering standing on the airstrip.

I wonder if that was his last flight?

If so, a rather ignominious end for a WWI ace...flying over your defeated country in a Stinson.

Great story..thanks for posting!

Goering was too fat to fit in a L-4!

So....he was a re-enactor then?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yeah, flying in the airplane which could fly in your skies freely, due to your poor management...

So....he was a re-enactor then?

Sheesh..I was just kidding. Someone in the thread also took a cheap shot at us model builders, but it was locked before I could respond.

300# even the back seat of an L-5 was overloaded. Just shows what a great airplane it is.
