No 7 Hanger Restoration - CH2A

Sun Jan 30, 2011 12:22 am

Well it seems the last thread has disappeared...

Anyway here are some updates from today. Things are really coming along great!

This is going to be the new entrance to the archive/museum. Main entrance to the building is just outside of the picture on the left wall, and the entrance to the hanger is going to be where the door is on the right.

This is looking the opposite direction (standing in the entrance to the archive room). The first room with the angled wall is going to be the gift shop, the hallway on the left is going to lead down to the mens and womens washrooms and an office at the end of the hall, the hallway then wraps around and leads back out into the main hanger.

This is part way down the hallway past the gift shop, this are going to be one of the two main washrooms.

This is the end of the hallway where it wraps back around into the hanger (where the door is at the end). The room on the left is just a storage room, the one of the left is going to be offices.

This is at the opposite end where our old Lanc waiting room/lounge area was. Up to the wall is going to be the archive room, behind it is going to be offices.

These two are in the main hanger, they've insulated the upper walls and put up a nylon plastic over it. They've also been working on putting in new lights and have started on the sprinkler system.

Pity they couldnt have reused the old window openings. Also I hope they didnt dispose of the original lights as they were period ww2 ones.

I wondered about that too. Seems more of a renovation then a restoration.

Yeah it's kind of turned into that, in the begining we were told it was a restoration but like you guys said it's basically just major renovations. It's still great though, going to really move us along as a museum.

The windows in the upper walls have been put off until sometime in the future. We weren't going to have the money to do it, almost already over budget from what I've been told. The hanger doors are going to have to wait too, they are however going to get them working again so they can be closed over the door that we have in place now for events, etc.

All the lights are being replaced in the hanger, the new ones are a lot more enery efficient. The only orginal WW2 ear ones are on the beam closest to the hanger door (seen in the two pictures). Everything else was updated several years ago.

And yes that is a PL-2.

BTW our Lanc restoration thread has been moved to the Retro Aviation forum. Check it out for our latest update!
