Let us not forget the fierce battle taking place in the ravines and forests of Belgium some 66 years ago today. We owe alot to the men who fought in this battle now known to the world as the Battle of the Bulge.

My grandfather was there, as a captain in tank destroyers under Patton. He said it was the coldest and most miserable he was in his entire life, and the fighting was the toughest he ever experienced (and he also fought in North Africa and Normandy).

In later years he went back and visited all the sites he had been in WW2, except for the Ardennes - he said he never wanted to step foot in Belgium again. He would never talk much about it, but my understanding was that nearly all of the guys he had made it that far through the war with were killed there.

Soldiers like your grandfather saved the war for the allies. God only knows how long the war would have lasted if we had lost the Battle of the Bulge.

..pretty interesting museum and memorial....hallowed ground indeed
