Years ago I started to collect my father in law's stories of his navy service (1935-1960) and among his papers was a list of his classmates at A school that included thier home towns and assignments. Recently I learned here about Footnote.com and have been checking this list of names against the Pearl Harbor muster lists and have confirmed that at least 4 of his 34 classmates were at Pearl Harbor. Kind of brings it home. (My father in law was at sea on USS Fulton's shake down cruise.)

I always remember Pearl Harbor Day - December 7 is my birthday...."a day that will live in infamy" my mother says.

My uncle married his second wife on Dec. 7 when he was in the navy back in the 70s. The family jokingly told him it was bad luck for a sailor to marry on Pearl Harbor Day. Apparently they were right..he came home from a cruise and she promptly gave him VD she'd picked up while he was at sea.
