Spied this backdrop for a political rally for Michael Rubio, a Senate candidate in California, on NBC news tonight.
Which Mustang and where?
Mon Oct 11, 2010 5:52 pm
He lives in Bakersfield if that is any help.
Maybe he is running on the slogan of "A Mustang in Every Garage"

The Mustang is Selby Burch's "Dixie Boy" - N5444V.

saw that myself and wondered. Figured I'd just wait to check WIX and find out!

Don't go moving to California just yet.
Marco Rubio is running for the Senate in Florida and was at
American Aero Services in New Smyrna Beach where this Mustang was restored.

Perhaps Randy has been breathing that jet fuel for so long that he doesn't know a Rubio from a Polo. Anyway the blurred figure in the ad looks somewhat like the Florida Republican Marco Rubio, more than the California Democrat Michael. The crowd and the background would fit Florida.

Yep, I really didn't have a chance to actually watch the report, so I didn't know whom it was. I was more excited about snapping the photo of the Mustang in time and trying to ID it.
I Googled Rubio, and that's what I came up with.

Better photo, Florida flag on right.

Well that's cool that it made it on TV in Calif. I would of loved to here what the news was "reporting". Marco is a really neat guy and it was a pleasure to host him here at the hanger and spend a few hours with his family.

How long until some media yahoo twists the meaning of "Dixie Boy" into his campaign?
Tue Oct 12, 2010 2:21 pm
Ken as for a twist on "Dixie Boy" , I guess if one lets his imagination go, we could come up with something devilish. Did they have 'Don't Ask. Don't Tell" in the Confederate Army?
Randy, no problem with the misidentification, I never believed that you were watching a Democratic candidate spot anyway.
Still, the question remains, did whichever candidate have any connection to the Mustang or is it just a prop? And what did he promise?
Tue Oct 12, 2010 3:15 pm
Bill to answer some of your questions, the owner of Dixie Boy is a supporter of the Rubio camp and since Marco is pro small bussiness we felt our latest restoration would make a nice back drop for the bus tour while stopping in on a small bussiness.
As for what he promises you can find that on his website.

Gary, all candidates are "pro small business", I'll bet you can't find a speech by any major party candidate where one says they are against small business.
And warbirds can help you create a small business. Just start off with a medium size business and get addicted to buying, owning, and operating warbirds. But it's only money.

It was the broadcast nightly news...I don't remember there being any political party affiliation attached to that.
