Auster RT497

Wed Oct 06, 2010 4:22 pm

Hi all!!

I'm making a query on behalf of a fellow aviation historian on another forum. He is searching for information related to a Taylorcraft Auster, RAF S/n RT497. The history of the plane's registration appears to be as follows:

RT497 G-AKSI HB-EON I-METE D-EGAT SE-AMC OY-ANV

Supposedly the unit operating that particular Auster was 38 Gp CF/316. Unit name and location remain unknown, as also confirmed information related to aircraft markings and paint during the war.

Any information related to the history of this airframe would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Orvo

Presumably 316 communications flight of 38 group.

Well, whatever it's war history, that's quite the tour of Northern Europe in a civil career!

I presume the history was lifted from here: http://www.auster.ukf.net/Auster%20prodn%20list.txt

Which gives it as an AOP.V (Air Observation Post Mark 5) - given the different performance and uses of Austers by mark, is worth mentioning as well.

I've asked the question over on Key where there are a few more Auster folks.

Thanks tankbarrel and James.... yes, I got the history from Auster Production list. And yes, it is pretty remarkable also after the war. The war part is being looked for mainly completing the dignified history in its entirety.

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for that posting of yours, thanks heaps for that also.
