Was this a lineup for testing/trials to go through with a contract for a military glider?

No. it just shows that the Army bought/commandeered every glider they could find to set up their training programs. Some of them are the result of Army contracts, some are onesie-twosie civilian gliders purchased and impressed into service.
The tubby beast in the back was the most suitable introduction to the CG-4A gliders used in assaults.
