Looking for old New Castle AFB Delaware photographs

Sat Sep 11, 2010 2:15 pm

Here's a real tough one for the group but if anyone on the planet has these things it'll be someone on this forum. :-))

I'm looking for old photographs of people, and location, of anything connected with the old 142'nd Fighter Squadron, Delaware Air National Guard showing the ramp area, the hangar as it was inside and outside, during the period the 142'd was flying P47N's, P51D's, F84G's, and F86A's. There were other aircraft involved during this period but not relevant to this specific search for data.
I have I believe everything and anything available on the web so whatever would be useful would be from someone's private collection. I'm relating this to keep some nice person out there trying to help from searching the web and finding what we already have.

It's a long shot I know as it was a LONG time ago, but if anyone just happens to have something gathering dust in an old shoebox down in the basement, I'd really like to have a copy :-))))))
Many thanks as always,
Dudley Henriques

Dudley,

Have you contacted the Delaware ANG? They're still active on the field (the 166th Tactical Airlift Wing, operating C-130s) and I'm sure they have a historical archive. Also, you might try contacting the Wilmington News Journal newspaper. I'll bet they have plenty of great information in their archives. The management of the New Castle County Airport (also known for many years as Greater Wilmington Airport) probably has an archive also.

I grew up 3.6 miles NNW of New Castle County Airport. I used to love seeing (and hearing!) the piston-powered airliners, freighters, and military cargo planes going in and out of there! DE ANG operated C-97s for a number of years before they switched to the C-130A in '71.

If we ever meet in person, ask me about the time that Dad and I almost got run over by a landing DE ANG C-130 just after landing in Dad's Cherokee.

Hi Dean;

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have everything the archives and the Guard have. Simply looking for any additional photographs that might be available through private sources.
