Wonderful update Scott! I visited the Swoose and Memphis Belle (and Shoo Shoo Baby) just a few weeks ago. Your pictures show them in just about the same state of progress.

Has anyone else thought about this. It been 75 years since the B-17 took its first flight and all these years later, look at how many Flying Fortresses are under restoration!! Pretty amazing I think. I find it very interesting that a turret from the Greenland ice cap was on display at Thunder and may be incorporated into a B-17 project. Also, what a job on the tail for the Dyke Lake B-17! Kool stuff for sure. Now all we need is an update on the FHC's B-17E and does anyone know the lastest on "My Gal Sal" project in Ohio. Wow, Ohio is the state for B-17 restorations!

Based on informed discussions we've had here regarding Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby's inaccurate scheme and the reasoning behind it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that 40-3097 will be painted O.D. green and gray. Which narrows the scheme choice field down to "Ole Betsy"

I'd much prefer to see the B-17 sitting on its gear. The museum could bring in some additional funds by letting guests tour the inside. Assuming it will be hanging, I'm sure it will just be a stripped out shell inside. Wasn't there a time when the Museum of Flight was planning on hanging N17W?

The Swoose was OD and gray for its period of use as a transport in Australia...it was just basically withdrawn from use as a active bomber and used as a transport. It still retained some if not all of its defensive armament. Very poorly applied and grossly weathered camouflage paint, but paint nonetheless. It wasn't polished until it went to Panama later.

What an update! What a Summer! What a year for B-17 lovers!

So many developments this year and what a nice summary at your site.
SwampGhost BACK in the USA (face it, how many of us had written that off as an improbable event.)
Thunder Over Michigan
The "trades" amongst the AFM and the Smithsonian
The work the "projects" have been achieving.

When some of these are completed to flying, and I believe they will be... it will alter the B17 scene for the better.
My position is that having more B17 expertise scattered through-out the community is better for ALL the operators.

Pretty skimpy of the B-25 intell.
How about adding that 44-86725 N25NA is for sale as is and where is.
The Aussie owner gave up after spending a wad of cash on her.
