With the path of Earl heading near Patriots Point does anyone close to the museum know if any precautions are being taken and what are they?

Yorktown actually IS a precaution, in and of herself. Her hanger is where they park the state/local helos (police/state trooper and medivac) helos when a hurricane comes barreling through.

The big issues are going to be the topside aircraft, which I'd suppose they'd add extra chains too. Although I'm not sure that her newer rubberized-deck areas have as many tie-downs as her earlier decks did. Other issue will be how she sits in her berth when a surge comes through. She's actually grounded, and is still down about 5 degrees by the bow from one of the earlier hurricanes (Hugo, I think). I'm reminded of how the Alabama was pushed out of her berth by Katrina.

I think it's a VERY good thing that Laffey is away being repaired (at least she was in late July). She was requiring major and continuous pumping to stay afloat, and there'd be a real risk that she'd sink.

Weather predictions here in Charleston are that Earl will pass 250+ miles offshore, and the Charleston area will get some moderate wind, but most damage locally will be from waves and beach erosion. Not aware of any special precautions being taken for the Yorktown aircraft.
