Beaufighter R2336 406 RCAF coded as HU?

Mon Aug 30, 2010 6:45 pm

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone that has a copy of Andrew Thomas' book 'Beaufighter Aces of WW2' and could kindly tell me the code of R2336 that flew in 406 RCAF Squadron and claimed a Victory on September 1, 1941. I believe the book has a listing of all victories by date.

I can find anything on-line, and no books this up to date at my library. I kind of need to know long before the book would arrive in the mail, otherwise I would order a copy.

Thanks very much to anyone that can help.

Dave

Hi Dave

I looked in "Beaufighter Aces of WW2" book and the information you look at is not there. This book has no listing of all victories by date. Only aces listing with number of victories, squadron numbers and operating theatre. There is no picture of plane R2336. In the text, they only mentionned that this plane was flown by Flg Off R. C. "Moose" Fumerton who shut down a Ju88. It was the first victory of 406 squadron at the first of his 13 victories in beaufighter.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the reply J-F,

I've been looking everywhere and just found it in where I would not have expected to. I was reading 'All the fine young eagles' by David Bashow, and found an account by Fumerton which states "On the night of 1 September 1941, I took off from Acklington in Beaufighter 'J', with radar operator Sgt. Pat Bing, for a night test. ............. Not too long after that, we were scrambled and given a height and and course to steer to steer for the interception of a bandit." .....

I can safely deduce that R2336 was coded HU J.

Thanks
