Rocky Mountain Airshow Pics

Fri Aug 27, 2010 10:59 pm

Thought you might like to see some pics from today’s Rocky Mountain Airshow. The show runs Saturday and Sunday. I heard the Tornado is based in New Mexico – hence the NM flag on the tail.

(First time a Tornado and Osprey have been to the Denver area)

Nice pics.

I must note though that it's not the first time that either a Tornado or Osprey have been to Denver; only the first time they've been displayed at an airshow or fly-in. There are a few pics at the Perfect Landing of both the V-22 prototype and the first MV-22s when they came through on their way to Leadville for High Altitude testing. Also, most people don't realize it, but RAF Tornados stop (or at least used to during the early to mid-2000's) fairly frequently at Buckley AFB on their way to/from Nellis. Their VC-10 and L1011 tankers stop even more frequently at Buckley (if escorting Tornados) and Denver International (when escorting everything else) for the same reason.

Way cool and I would dare to say pretty rare to see a Tornado at a US airshow outside of Holloman.

COOL!

I was out there perusing too...I put up a thread on the Jeffco firebomber accident repairs going on....anything new arrive later in the afternoon? I know they were waiting on the Rocky Mountain wing TBM to arrive....I chased down rumors af a P-47 over at Stevens aviation but found nothing (Bill Klaers keeps his in the Springs, was hoping it had found its way north)....there is a possibility you caught me under the tail of the V-22, the guy carrying the black camera bag...

That Osprey is a sure award winner, certain to take the title of ugliest in show, that is unless a Fairey Gannet shows up.

It is an interesting exercise in designing a machine to fight gravity and Bernouli both.

I don't know if it has any combat victories, but it sure put a dent in a lot of taxpayers. It seems they may have finally gotten it to fly safely or at least safer, let's hope so.

Great pictures! Looks like it was a great show. The picture of the Rhino intake is somewhat of a taboo shot... I was recently asked to delete my photos of it as it is the only thing on that aircraft that they explicitly cannot photograph as per the Public Affairs Officer.... But it's a great pic!

Sensitive Pics?

Of course I would not want to offend a PA Officer.............. :finga:

so - just in case they want to send someone knocking at the door....

No offence meant and none taken - I too find the whole thing kind of silly with all the CAP guys shooing away photogs by saying you had to be no further forward than the wing to take a pic of the plane. The Growler drivers on Friday were way cool about it.

Oh - and since there is a ladder on the other side..........

 8)
