Try your local chapter of the American Kennel Club and see if they have a contact number for the local bulldog "rescue." The cost is usually nil because someone needs to get rid of a dog in a hurry (lost their house is a common theme these days). Some are just a couple of years old, but the really needy dogs are the older ones.
