Airventure 2010 Video

Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:33 pm

Hello WIX,

Long time lurker here, but i've been a fan of the forum for quite some time, so I thought it was probably best to go ahead and register. I kept up with the "Official Airventure" thread pretty closely for updates and goings on, so I figured I would go ahead and post some of my videos from the event here. I'll start things off with my main video that I put together every year. It's a music video compilation set to footage from this year's event.

Thanks for watching, and spread it around if you care! I'll have more tomorrow!

I saw your videos for the first time last year, and like many others, loved it, and this years' as well. Nice job-you have great video and editing and timing skills!

Hey Slick,

great video! Excellent soundtrack and very visually stimulating. I can definitely tell that you have practice making videos like this. Is it just a hobby for you, or does your line of work include similar projects?

In any case I gotta get over there some year. I Just gotta convince Bill to let me tag along with him, cuz I don't know how else I'd get there. And I think he'd be able to point me in the right direction once we land there.

It's a pretty big airshow, right?

Peace,

David M

That's why I like your posts, David. I can never really tell if you're being straight, clever, or just a wee bit facetious.

First off: Airventure, officially, is the annual convention of the EAA. Its claim of being the world's largest aviation event isn't some hokey tourism spiel. It is fact.

Now ask yourself: What's the largest fly-in (aircraft of all types) I've ever attended? 100 aircraft? 200 aircraft? If so, even a veteran aviation fan has a little trouble visualizing 10,000+ aircraft. But this is OSH.

Here are this year's numbers from the EAA:

EAA AirVenture overcame the July rains that slowed preparations and soared to a big finish on Sunday, completing a week that saw a total attendance of 535,000 people and more than 10,000 airplanes.

The final numbers also included:

More than 10,000 aircraft arriving at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh and other airports in east-central Wisconsin.
2,380 showplanes, including 1,106 homebuilt aircraft, 635 vintage airplanes, 374 warbirds, 115 ultralights, 120 seaplanes and 30 rotorcraft.
777 commercial exhibitors, up from 750 in 2009.
2,167 international visitors registered from 66 nations, with Canada (586 visitors), Australia (350), and Brazil (221) the top three nations. This total includes only non-U.S. visitors who register at the International Visitors Tent, so the actual international contingent is undoubtedly larger.
Campers in the aircraft and drive-in area estimated at more than 36,000.
979 media representatives from six continents.

Hey Dan,

I suppose you could say I was being quite sarcastic. I know Oshkosh is the apex of all aviation events. Watching Slick's video it shows you probably everything there is to see and do at the show, but really, really quickly. Otherwise, the video would have to be days long to cover it all in any kind of remote detail.

I've been told you can spend the entire length of the event at the show, but not even see all of it. It is clearly an event that one must attend year after year; with each year having a different focus.

Clearly I'd hit the Warbird area first and most, then vintage, then probably the homebuilt section. It looked like there was also an aircraft building demo area, that looks cool.

In all seriousness, I can tell Oshkosh is the airshow of all airshows. There is something for everyone; and why I haven't to Oshkosh yet is beyond me.

Peace,

David

Thanks guys for the kind words!

Yup, Airventure sure is the mother-load of all airshows! This year was my 8th trip, 5th flying in, and I've NEVER been able to see and do everything in the 10 days I'm there! It is just not physically possible!

The music video was a quick look at the entire week from the issue with the rains to the night airshow...but I've also started uploading my "Ten Minutes of Airventure 2010" series. This is where I take all of my raw footage and put the best together to form ten minute segments that show the event in chronological order...and it's all airplane noise! No music set to these videos. I'm currently working on Part 5, but here are the first four segments for your viewing pleasure:

Slick, last year was the first video of yours I saw. It was awesome, and this one is right there with it.

Yup, the OSH videos are nicely done. They remind me of the work Paul Koskela used to put together in the 90's.

I probably should not have waited so long to update, but here are four more videos. Part 6-9, which goes from the Tuesday airshow through Thursday morning. Here is a little description of what is in each if you don't want to watch 40 minutes of video! :D

Part 6 (takes your through the remainder of the Tuesday airshow, which not only included the standard performers but a neat reenactment of the very first aircraft shot down during Pearl Harbor. It also includes the aftermath of Jack Roush's crash, and footage from Wednesday morning.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EYCBWyN32k

Part 7 (you are taken through some of the morning and early afternoon scenes around the grounds as well as a bit of arrivals on Wednesday. Then the video showcases the Wednesday airshow viewed from the EAA Radio building, which begins with the Vietnam warbirds demonstration.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1ntEPpPBMI

Part 8 (continues with the rest of the Wednesday afternoon airshow. This airshow was probably my favorite of the week. It was a beautiful day, the Vietnam reenactment was awesome, and the performers were equally as great!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpqIlgPa-G0

Part 9 (you'll see the remainder of the Wednesday airshow followed by a nice trip to the ultralight field and a few scenes from the flight line on Wednesday afternoon. Then, during a trip to get breakfast at the Tall Pines on Thursday morning, the Phantom and Skyhawks decide to go play as well as some other aircraft.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cqoeadUchY

Thanks again, Slick. All good stuff.

Any chance you shot some video of a BT-13 performing aerobatics on the closing Sunday? John Drews is looking for some video of that performance (of what, I'm guessing, is the Vultee he used to own). Here's John's original request:
