This is my favorite flying veteran. Great video, thanks for sharing, Uwe. Very minor typo ... the model is A-1H.

For anyone who's interested in the amazing story of how Lieutenant America and 3 of her sisters escaped from Vietnam to Thailand in 1975 and eventually made it back to the skies, see the previous thread, including a link to an Air & Space magazine article on the escape. 3 of 4 still fly. #4 was flown to the Smithsonian where I hope she will be soon be on public display.

Thanks for the great video!

Gotta few questions:

1. One side of the rudder is lettered T6 and the other C65.
Is there a special meaning to this?

2. Several times the air brakes are deployed, but I only could see the side brakes and not the bottom one. Are they deployed separately or
was it just the camera angle?

3. Did they get the motor fixed? Lotta smoke on the return trip.

The period tail codes for this airplane were a large "TC" over the smaller tail number. The tail number would be (in black "AF" and a two-digit number such as "35") and the last three digits in white, "665". At this point, the rudder hasn't had its markings restored, so the codes appear incomplete.

I'll let someone else answer on the speedbrake question, but it is my understanding that many A-1s had the lower board deactivated to prevent interference with the center fuel tank and stores. This may or may not be the case with 665.

As far as some smoke at idle, I believe that particular video segment was shot within the first week of the airplane's arrival at the museum and it did need some tweeking. I imagine the smoke is now old news.

Ken is absolutely right with his statements.

As far as I remember Neal had the lower Speedbrake deactivated.

And yes the smoke thing is old. The engine actually stoped smoking
after the next flight.

Great footage! Now it would will be nice to see the owner paint the bare metal repair areas and match the panels a little more. The military (Air Force) typically didn't have aircraft quite that rough.

This is the plan from what I understand, to blend in new paint to match the old paint. Also, I think the Lieutenant America nose art will be re-painted.
