Aviation Museum construction projects?

Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:53 pm

Other than the construction taking place at Udvar Hazy in Virginia and at the NMNA in Florida, is there any construction projects taking place by museums to expand their facilities? With the ongoing recession I kinda think not but there might be a few others out there.

Hangars at the Military Aviation Museum (most folks call it the Fighter Factory which it ain't) in VB are going up. Steel has been raised on one that I know of, haven't been back over in a couple of weeks, steel on another may be up too by now.

Kermit Weeks has completed a labyrinth for Fantasy of Flight. Not high on my "must see" list but maybe somebody will be interested.

If the CASC owned the property you bet we would be doing allot of deconstruction/reconstruction. :(

At NEAM, it's more for storage of projects than a restoration specific Building.
Nice to see things get under cover.

Hey Guys,

The Canadian Museum of Flight (Langley, BC) www.canadianflight.org was planning on doing a major fundraising drive to have a new hangar at Langley Airport built that would finally house our entire collection indoors for the first time.

That was just about the time the world recession was gaining speed.

Needless to say, the CMF still intends to do so, but we're going to have to wait until a time when people have desposable income again.

Currently focus is on staying alive (like most of us, right?), and restoring our Fleet Canuck. I haven't been out to the 'ol museum in quite a long time, but from what I know our Canuck (not the jet) is in the process of having its fuselage and wings covered. That's quite exciting news because it'll finally be looking like a real airplane instead of a confusing skeleton.

Anyways, I saw this topic and figured I'd put in a word about my little museum.

Peace,

David

I am currently putting in a 50 foot runway in my yard. I'm hoping to get a corsair to land here and keep it. Although every pilot laughs at me.....

Must be one of those pedal cars made to look like a Corsair you are going to land there!

It will come down to whether or not the Shuttle comes here but there's a simple video showing what the potential new building would look like to house it if the Museum of Flight got one.

It would be nice to see some plans to house the B-17, B-29 & Connie as well as the airliners.

The Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa, Idaho is about 6 weeks into construction on a new 18,000 square foot expansion to our display facility.
