Remember Midway: June 4, 2010

Thu Jun 03, 2010 11:12 pm

Today is "Midway day". Another year passes on this date. Many U.S. airmen and sailors lost during the Battle Of Midway. Very brave men! Also never forget the Yorktown! :( She still sits in the waters off Midway. A test of time and a moment in history that still stays with us. Thank you to all that served during the battle of Midway! Thank you to all that gave all!

Thanks,
Nathan

Thanks guys and right you are! :D

The VT's, along with VMF-221 pilots, and VMSB-241 Vindicator crews. Also got to remember the forgotten B-17 and B-26 crews. No hits but did mix up the Japanese fleet and confuse the Japanese Naval high command. It was the start of events leading up to the Japanese defeat. Also remember Medal of Honor, Capt Richard Fleming of VMSB-241 who lost his life while attacking a Japanese Cruiser-Flying a torn old Vindicator. Heroes one and all. :( Also have to remember the ground grunts on Midway island. Who cheered their Marine pilots taking off.....GO MARINES!!

A date to remember for sure! Lots of great men died for freedom in that action which turned the tide in the Pacific. Does anyone know if the footage John Houston shot on Midawy during the battle is available on DVD?

I don't remember a John Houston. But there is a John Ford that made a documantary during the battle. You can find it on youtube. My favorite part is the early B-17E models and the film evidence of the SB2U's.

Thanks Nathan. Sometimes it's hard to imagine what was happening in those dark days years ago. Midway, D-Day - you name it someone was fighting. Different years , different days. The world was in turmoil. While one group was battling in one place , D-Day was going on in another. Thank God for the good men & women the world had. I salute all who contributed. Overseas in battle zones & safe stateside places. American & her Allies. I was always amazed how the US pulled together in those days. Thanks to All.
