And the legend continues. Onward goes the latest generation.

I like it. We kind of had a similar situation at the CoC show in Stratford. We had a Rhode Island ANG C-130 come in for the show along with the "Spirit of Freedom" C-54. So a little bit of the old and less old.

We had a similar situation here in Charleston at the AFB airshow in 2008, I believe. We had the C-54 "Spirit of Freedom" parked next to the C-17, which was named "Spirit of the Berlin Airlift", I think.

Great shot, Walt!
When was the last flight of a C-124? And were any on the civil register?

After months of hard work by Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Museum Volunteers, C-124C 52-0994 completed a nonstop flight from Selfridge ANGB to its final destination at McChord AFB on October 9 1986. The delivery of -0994 to the McChord Air Museum was the last flight ever of a C-124 Globemaster II.

As far as I know there were never any C-124's on the civil register.

I have been trying for quite a while to get a "father-son" shot of the two Globemasters. Several times there were C-5B's parked on the concrete pad you see at the right of the photo, but never a C-17. I tried to get one from across the field with a telephoto lens, but the lighting conditions, haze, and the ever-present security police foiled my every attempt.

We were parked nose to nose with the C-17 "Spirit of Berlin" during the dedication ceremony on May 12, 1998 at Tempelhof Airport, Berlin. German Chancellor Kohl, President Clinton, USAFE General John Jumper, Berlin Mayor Enerhard Diepgen,Berlin Candy Bomber Gail Halvorsen and German Candy Recipient Mercedes Wilde officialy dedicated the airplane on the 49th Anniversary of the end of the blockade.

Later, we arranged a formation flight over Ramstein with both the "Spirit of Freedom" and the "Spirit of Berlin"

My shirt was one of the loadmaster's on the C-17. If yall are interested in doing one of those formation flights again, let me know. I can probably arrange it!

Civil Registered C-124's ?

Mon Jun 14, 2010 12:02 am

Yes, I did see a civil registed C-124 circa 1985 sitting at Las Vegas McCarren Airport. It had been painted O/A white with a very wide blue stripe down the length of the fuselage. Actually looked pretty sharpe.

Can any of or Nevada WIX'ers add anything???

It was scrapped several years ago.
