Spitfire on the move

Thu May 20, 2010 5:41 pm

Was at Oshkosh yesterday and scuttlebutt was that MJ772, on loan from the Museum of Flight, has been sold by MoF and will be moving on soon, perhaps back to flying-

Not internal to the details...but....

Given from the Champlin collection to MOF & then sell it ?

I know they have another Spit in the collection.

Just curious, not judging.

Actually, I think you might be thinking of MK923, which was given, I believe on long term loan, to the MOF. MJ772 is the T.9 which was bought, along with the bulk of the Champlin Museum, and is now surplus to the museum's needs. The MOF received a fully restored Mustang as part of this deal. I do believe that MJ772 will be returned to flying condition again, but I forget who the new owner is.

Cheers,
Richard

Just a guess; someone is going to restore it back to airworthy condition and to it's dual cockpit configuration. :)

Great to hear it will fly again.
A Spitfire seen in a museum is nice, A Spitfire seen flying is a religious experience.
