When was this aircraft's (@ the NMUSAF) restoration completed and when did it go back on display? I must've missed it. Beautiful restoration, my only issue is to be with deletion of the 6 .50 cal outer wing panel locations. Definately a unique bird.

It was on display in mid-Sep last year when I visited the museum.

WOW! Didn't even know a P-75 survived! I think the P-75 is a freakin cool bird. Even though it was considered one of the worst of WWII.

That airplane is like watching a train wreck...I CAN'T NOT WATCH! Have never been able to figure out if I love it or hate it. But it is fascinating, nonetheless...and an amazing restoration. Can't wait to see it someday.

Long time ago I search about various info regard to this plane and I was lucky to get in contact with one gentleman which father was photographer and he send me few images of this plane. Material was really helpful when I was made color profiles.

The P-75 is on display in the R&D hangar..former known as the Annex. Unfortunately since it's on the active side of the base, you have to go through a security briefing and take a bus over there from the main museum, which eats up a good chunk of your visit. I miss the days when you could just drive over there and stay as long as you wanted. I can't wait until they get Building IV up, and all the aircraft are together in the same complex.

I'm not sure, but I think they must have done at least some restoration work in the cockpit. The plane sat outdoors for many years, and the canopy was badly yellowed and crazed from sun exposure..I'm sure the cockpit was pretty rough as well. I know they had to repair a good bit of "hangar rash," as well as cast a new scoop for the underside of the nose.

Definitely a strange bird. Can you imagine trying to synchronize four 20mm cannon to fire through a pair of contra-rotaiting props?

Yeah I remember seeing that. I always figured she bellyed-in or had a gear collapse in the past.

Take a Buddy that has a military ID with you. Drive to the gate, show Military ID on top, your driver's lic on bottom, stay as long as you want! NO BUS TOUR! Took the Colonel & Major with me this trip. The R&D hanger joins the Presidential Hanger. The assembly/relocation crew were just leaving the Presidential Hanger when we arrived. Kennedy's Air Force One WAS in the Restoration Hanger the day before. They moved it early in the morning. We, (er...the Women) were the first to go through it that day. The new Imron paint job looks GREAT!

Some Kennedy's bird is back in the Presidential Hangar now? They had it over in Restoration when we visited in late January. How much did the do to her..just some paintwork? Years ago (while the plane was still in service) during a restoration tour the guide said that once they got it, the plan was to return the interior to the configuration of the Kennedy Administration. The museum actually has the seats that Jackie and LBJ used on the flight back from Dallas.
