SWAMP GHOST UPDATE

Sun Feb 21, 2010 3:57 am

The "Ghost" is in New Zealand in transit to the USA. Cannot reveal the final port of destination yet due to the bad guys who are always trying to cause trouble.

Sadly the three members of the original crew that were still alive when the Ghost was recovered will not be there, the last survivor having passed away just recently.

What a pity that these veterans have been denied their wish to see the Ghost come home due to Justin Taylans decision to destabilise a perfectly legal and valid contract. How does this guy sleep at night?

Sounds like a good excuse for some good old-fashioned open-ocean piracy.

Here's how I understand the situation from the news reports I have seen. The recovery went according to contract, with all the legalities nicely handled. However, a certain American found out about the Ghost's removal, and staged an agressive press campaign, in conjunction with a couple of locals, which caused such a public outcry that the government had to intervene and prevent the shipment for a while until things had calmed down. Nearly four years later, and after much internal inquiry to make the public satisfied that justice had been served, the government quietly announced that the Ghost could continue her journey... and so here we are. Lets hope the Ghost continues her journey home safely.

Cheers,
Richard

Anyone know if she still has all the parts she came out of the swamp with? 4 years is a long time to be sitting, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for parts to "disappear". On the same note, I wonder if the belly turret machine guns that were confiscated by the local government are being returned as well?

I was told by the salvor that she lost a couple of things, but was largely unmolested during her sojourn in the lumber yard.

Many would say that Justin Taylan has done a wonderful job PRESERVING history through the discovery and documentation of the instruments that upheld freedom across the globe.

Anyone else wondering who this Jungle Rose is and what his/her involvement was in this situation? I am not a fan of anonymity as I feel it is a gateway for cowardly smearing like the above. Was it not the local gov't that prohibited shipment for so long?

Very well said! Justin may have his own views about recovery of wrecks that we do not agree with but on the other side, i do not remember many (any ?) salvagers helping recovering our MIA.

Wow I can't believe it, after reading about it for years , worrying about it getting safely back to the US, I find its in New Zealand.
I live in Auckland New Zealand, where the main container port is, maybe I drove past it this morning, on the way to work.
Goodluck for a safe trip, keep the updates coming

I second the question as to whether the Bendix lower turret will be coming home with her? I never knew anything about them until I started learning about the 'Ghost here on WIX.

I love this site! :D
