Schertz Texas warbirds? F-104/F-105 there in the late 70's

Tue Feb 16, 2010 12:13 pm

We lived near Randolph AFB back in the early 70's. My father used to drive us to Schertz to look at a couple of static Air Force Jets that sat on or near what is now Pickerl Park. Right up the hill on the right on FM 1518.., now gone.., Just north of the RR crossing.., under the bridge and up the hill.., Anyone know or heard of them?.., I emailed the City Council.., and oddly enough received no response to my query and it has been three months! must be really busy there in Schertz.., and I am sure they get requests for info like this all the time!!!

Thanks!!!

Again.., it was either an F-104 or an F-105.., Think it was an F-104 and an F-105 because I remember the 105 was camo and the F-104 was gray.

Thanks again!

You'd love the City Hall building now, it's a Hooters!!!! The area has really grown up, and they are making a lot of property and sales tax money these days, so Selma isn't so bad about being a speed trap now. Plus with the highway speed up to 70 again through there, and the congestion on I-35, not a lot of people going over the speed limit, or able to. Ober is right, Schertz is still hiding on the side of the road, fishing for revenue from time to time.

I wish I knew something about those planes. I never got off the highway, so I never got the chance to see them.

Having gone to school in Seguin and having relatives in SA and at North Cliff (Cibolo) I am VERY aware of those good ol' speed trap areas! I will check in with my cousins and see if they recall your hypothetical jets! I never saw them, but then again, did not wander too far off path through Schertz on the way to the Windsor Mall on 410.

LOL..., no mate.. it was not a dream.., they were there! I would say the last time I was there was 1976. On the other side of 35.., what is the road that runs perpindicular to RAFB.., that runs straight into Seguin and beyond.., just under the RR tracks on the North side.., which parallels all the way to Seguin..,but in Schertz! Under the tracks and up a hill., and alas.., there they WERE!!!!

Someone done yanked em!

LMAO., that is too darn funny, mate!!!

I spent lots of hours in there in front of a judge writing checks for tickets!

I went to UT.., and folks in S.A...so many hours on weekends hauling laundry back and forth between the two.

LOL.., a Hooters!!! I used to ride the electric bull at a big dance hall on the northwest side of 35 back in the day as well. A large orange country western dance hall.., lol..
