The Ultimate Squadron Bar-top

Thu Jan 28, 2010 5:34 am

Found this photo while rummaging around my current squadron's historical files.

This would be any warbird fan's ultimate bar-top.

That's a neat one.

For the developing alcoholics among us, there's more bar room on a B-24 tail. Or a Connie. :D

There's a famous shot of some RAAF (maybe RAF?) pilots drinking off the tail of a Me 110 in N Africa.

Description Western Desert, Libya. 5 June 1942. The bullet riddled tail of a German Messerschmitt ME110 fighter aircraft resting on 44 gallon drums is used as a long bar for the officers mess of a Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk fighter aircraft squadron. The enemy aircraft was shot down by a member of the squadron. In the background is a left-hand drive photographer's vehicle and a tripod. A number of squadron members enjoy a drink of Blackhorse Ale beer at 'the bar'.

Note some souvenir hunter had been interrupted for the photo op.
"Barry, stop trying to hack that swastika off, mate."
"Why?"
"Because there's some bloody journo with some bloody photographer and he wants us to set it up as some bloody bar - as if we'd be drinking in the sun."
"Well ***** him!"
"He's brought the beer."
"Well that's different - where d'ja want it?"

The Minnesota wing of the CAF has a DC-3 stab as a bar top.

Are those .303 or .30 bullet holes on the verticals, looks like they've been circled.

Anyone know if there are any beer-pong table sized stabilizers or wing pieces out there for sale?

It took me a minute to realize just what I was looking at, and then the "holy crap" moment hit me! That is AWESOME!

Probably just the area where the paint blew off at impact.

That is very cool, I'll have to file this idea away for a future project.

I think it would be a neat idea to replicate some warbird tails to make some bars like that. They make couches that look like the rear end of a 57 Chevy, why not a P-38?

How hard can it be to make a ME-110 tail?

Some rivet counter would find fault with the paint colors I'll bet...............................

Looks like WIX might crash the server there! That is good stuff.

It is interesting to compare bullet holes in the tail. Some look like they might have been strafing shots while others were most likely some ground target shooting. Building a tail like that and adding some bullet holes would be a very nice touch.

I've got our old B-25's stab in the garage. That'd be cool to give it the treatment!

Lemmie think.
1. Massive inflation.
2. Collapse of democracy, rise of a dictator.
3. Funding for the military industrial complex
4. Set up BFW
5. Employ Herr Messerschmitt
6. Develop 108, 109 and...
7. Bf 110!

Easy, only seven steps...
